Annual Meetings

" The Society of Tobacco Jar Collectors meets annually at various locations around the world. W have met in Baltimore, New Orleans, Atlanta, Richmond, Boston, Atlantic City, NJ, Carmel, CA. Miami, London and most recently, in Vienna Austria. Plans for 2006 have not been finalized yet."

The meetings include a guest speaker or informational video ortour, a buy, sell and trade session, a general business meeting, and a very sumptuous banquet. The best part of the weekend, however, is the interaction of tobacco jar collectors sharing information about their collections and new finds.

At our annual meeting this past September in Vienna, Austria, we are privileged to see the tobacco jar collection located in the Royal Austrian Museum. This collection has not been open to public display in several years, but we were able to get to see it in the storage area. Quite an experience. We also were able to see several small collections on pieces from the Jacob Maresch factory in some small local museums. With a trip to the Meissen factory at the end of the trip, this meeting was one of the best.

For 2006, we are finalizing plans for our September meeting. Possible sites include Paris, Amsterdam or some location in the United States close to a major show or large antique shopping district.

The Society of Tobacco Jar Collectors is making a move to increase membership by moving into the electronic age as witnessed by the web site. We also will be increasing our public relations  methods including an article in the May issue of  "Antique Trader's" Collector's Showcase.
   We have witnessed  an increase in the interest and hope to spread the word to others.
